Method

Prep and fill
  1. Preheat oven to 375F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Stir cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and lemon juice into the canned apple pie filling, then spread it in the prepared dish.
Make the oat crumble
  1. Combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt, then cut in cold butter until chunky clumps form.
  2. Scatter the crumble generously over the apple filling, covering it evenly.
Bake and serve
  1. Bake at 375F for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
  2. Rest 5 minutes, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For the best crisp texture, use cold butter and don’t overwork the crumble—keep it chunky. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator up to 4 days; reheat individual portions in the oven or toaster oven until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended as the crumble can soften. For a lighter option, swap half the butter for unsweetened applesauce while keeping the crumble clumpy.
